Brunei has a baseline of about 70 nautical miles long with territorial limit extended out to 12 nautical miles. The Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extended out to 200 nautical miles within which, estuaries and several rivers extending well into the interior. Roles of the Royal Brunei Navy are therefore:
- Maritime Surveillance and Response (within EEZ)
- Control of Maritime Focal Areas
- Protection of Key National Maritime Assets and Infrastructure
- Other National Tasks
